BILBAO AD (LEBB).- Replacement of runway edge lights and guard lights of RWY 10/28.
Until 20 February 2026 (estimated), works to renovate the runway edge lighting system of RWY 10/28 and the runway guard lights associated with the runway-holding positions at TWY C1, C2, C4, C6, D1, K1 and THR 28 of Bilbao Airport, will be underway.
The works will be executed in two phases, which may not necessarily be executed in the given order and not they may be carried out simultaneously.
The works will be performed outside operational hours, although restrictions will be in place within said hours during each phase.
Due to their proximity to the runway, work zones shall not be marked or lit. Caution is recommended.
No works will be performed when low visibility procedures are active.
The start and end dates of the works, the presence of trenches outside the paved edges of RWY 10/28, as well as any operational incidents that may arise, will be announced via the corresponding NOTAM.
PHASE 1. Actions on runway strip RWY 10/28
Civil engineering works will be carried out parallel to the RWY 10/28 centreline in the runway strip and RESA for lighting circuits, therefore trenches will be dug in the strip of RWY 10/28 beyond the paved edges.
Operational Restrictions:
- No operations by code letter F aircraft will be permitted at Bilbao Airport.
- No operations by fixed-wing aircraft will be permitted on RWY 10/28.
PHASE 2. Actions regarding the runway edge lighting system of RWY 10/28.
During this phase, the edge lights of RWY 10/28 will be replaced with LED lights, placing them further away from the runway edge.
Operational Restrictions:
- The distance between the runway edge lights is increased to 120 m, as only 50% of the lights will be operational.
