BILBAO AD (LEBB). - Compliance works for apron lighting.

Until 28 November 2025 (estimated), actions to improve the lighting of the North, South and De-Icing aprons at Bilbao Airport will be underway.

The works will be carried out in three phases. The phases might not necessarily be executed in the order defined (the phases may be carried out jointly between the different platforms. Actions that involve different closures of parking within the same platform will not be simultaneous).

The effective start and end dates of each phase, as well as any operational incidents that may arise, will be announced via the corresponding NOTAM.

All phases will be executed during both operational and non-operational hours of the airport. Work that interferes with airport operations, such as the dismantling/installation of towers/masts, the painting of towers, and the installation and/or redirecting of floodlights, which entail infringing on easements due to the presence of machinery and the lifting of objects, will be carried out in non-operational hours.

The work areas shall be duly marked and lit by day and by night. These works will affect aircraft parking on the North and South Aprons.

Caution is recommended due to the presence of personnel and machinery. Taxiing must be accomplished at minimum power on taxiways of the North and South Aprons in order to prevent the impact of jet efflux in zones where personnel are working. Works on the de-icing apron will be carried out with the apron closed to aircraft traffic, outside the winter season. Works on the North Apron that affect operations will be carried out in the off season.

No works will be performed when low visibility procedures are active.

PHASE 1

Work on apron lighting masts.

This phase is subdivided into 4 sub-phases.

PHASE 1.1. Work on de-icing apron Masts

The work will consist of dismantling the upper body of masts 6 to 10 of the de-icing apron and assembling the new upper body and floodlights.

Operational restrictions:

  • Closure of de-icing apron.

PHASE 1.2. Work on Mast 11 of the North Apron

Replacement of mast 11 on the North Apron.

Operational restrictions:

  • Closure of PRKG 10 and 111 of the North Apron, and use restricted to daytime hours for arrivals, departures and handling operations at Stand 11.

PHASE 1.3. Work on Mast 12 of the South Apron

Installation of new mast 12 in the South Apron.

Operational restrictions:

  • Closure of PRKG G1 of the South Apron.

  • Code letter F aircraft operations restricted.

PHASE 1.4. Work on Mast 13 of the South Apron

Installation of new mast 13 in the South Apron.

Operational restrictions:

PHASE 2

Electrical installations and painting of apron towers.

The works will consist of replacing electrical and control panels on the de-icing apron and installing electrical and control panels in the North Apron terminal building and hangars next to Parking Stands H4 and H5. On the South Apron, electrical and control panels and new floodlights will be installed on the old control tower, floodlights on the mega towers will be redirected, and the towers that will not be replaced will be painted.

No PRKG will be closed. The use of stands on the South Apron may be restricted to daytime hours for arrival, departure and handling operations if necessary, due to the non-operational status of a tower/mast/floodlight.

Operational Restrictions:

  • No operational restrictions.
