Until 30 October 2026 (estimated), works to resurface the runway will be carried out at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport. The works will consist of paving and rectifying non-compliances on Runway 17-35, renovating the aeronautical lighting system and runway drainage, levelling the runway strip and critical areas, and replacing the ILS sheds.
The works will be conducted in six operational phases (A, B, C, D, F and G), and the areas affected in each are those specified in this document. Additionally, three contingency phases (D1, D2, D3) have been planned, to be activated only if necessary, following Phase C of continuous runway closure.
Two or more phases may not be activated simultaneously.
The start and end dates of each phase, as well as any operational incidents that may arise, will be announced via NOTAM.
All work zones will be duly marked and lit. Caution is recommended in all work areas due to the presence of workers and machinery.
The work schedule is specified for each phase.
The airport’s LVP activation procedure will be affected in some phases. The details of how this is affected are specified in each phase.
PHASE A - IMPLEMENTATION AND PRELIMINARY WORKS
Works within the manoeuvring area will be carried out within sight of traffic and with possible occasional closures of runways and taxiways at night time via publication of NOTAM.
Work schedule: 24H
Operational restrictions:
Occasional runway and taxiway closures via publication of NOTAM.
Presence of elevated elements. The coordinates will be published via NOTAM.
PHASE B - WORKS WITH H6 NIGHT-TIME CLOSURE OF RUNWAY
Works at night time with runway closed.

Presence of elevated elements. The coordinates will be published via NOTAM
During the night time closure of the runway, no commercial or military flights will be operated at night and all emergency/ambulance/National Transplant Organisation (ONT)/humanitarian flights must be diverted to other airports.
No flight plans with destination LEST shall be accepted, nor those with LEST as designated alternate airport during periods when the runway is closed.
If LVP are in place when the night time closure starts, they will be cancelled when the runway is closed in order to start the works. In the event that LVC are reached during the night time closure, the works will continue uninterrupted. When the runway is reopened, actions to activate LVP will be carried out, if required by the weather.
PHASE C - CONTINUOUS AIRPORT CLOSURE

Schedule: 24H
Operational restrictions:
AERODROME CLOSED. No take-off, landing or taxiing of aircraft will be permitted. No commercial or military flights will be operated and all emergency/ambulance/National Transplant Organisation (ONT)/humanitarian flights must be diverted to other airports. No flight plans with destination LEST shall be accepted, nor those with LEST as designated alternate airport.
The only aeronautical activity permitted will be engine tests at idling speed that may be required for aircraft that can be parked in the hangars. These tests will only be conducted at the hangar access PRKG on Apron P1 (41, 42, 43 and 44) and on Apron P3 (17 and 18). The aircraft will be dragged out of their hangar, tested and dragged back into their hangar. Engine tests shall require prior clearance by the airport. The tests will be supervised on site by the Runway and Apron Service.
In case of LVC, LVP will not be activated as the aerodrome shall be closed.
