PURPOSE
The purpose of this AIC is to inform all of Spanish airspace users of the incorporation of MOCA (Minimum Obstacle Clearance Altitude) values into the instrument flight procedures available for civilian use in the AIP-ESPAÑA.
1. Scope:
The publication of MOCA values covers the en-route, arrival, holding, initial approach, intermediate approach and final approach sections without vertical guidance, of instrument flight procedures available for civilian use in the AIP-ESPAÑA.
2. MOCA vs Altitude of flight procedure:
2.1) The MOCA value, which is in addition to the already available minimum altitude of the flight procedure, shall be equal to or lower than the latter, as it is based solely on obstacle clearance criteria. In general, MOCA values lower than the minimum altitude of the procedure cannot guarantee other aspects related to the operation.
2.2) Within those cases provided for in the scope, when a specific MOCA value has not yet been published in the AIP, the minimum altitude of the procedure shall serve as the MOCA value of the section in question.
